The world as of 1665.
I have to say, I was pretty impressed at the knowledge given the time and methods of travel not to mention the lack of GPS technology :)
Can you imagine being on a small ship with no bathroom facility for months and poor food, no new clothes or bedding......what a nasty way to live in such cramped facilities......going places you did not know at all....... These days we tend to complain when the plane is 4 hours late........and we can often retread to a spare room in case of snoring spouses.......
Anyway may I present my biggest puzzle yet. 3000 pieces!
Now it is framed and in my son's room. As soon as I was half way done he set claim to it.
Guess what that meant. Yup, my daughter also wants one. She picket is out and it will be about chocolate. The whole puzzle is just chocolate, I hope I will not go blind on all the dark color, but it will be nice once done.
Anyway, the top one measures 48 x 32 inches and my handy neighbor build a frame for us. You do not want to know, what the store asked for this size......
Originally I started a year ago and only got to do the outer rim part. Then it took a rest under my guestroom bed for 12 months and this January I finally said to myself.....enough dust on it.......let's get it done..... the beginning was slow, but after 6 weeks it was finished.....oh that moment when you put the last few pieces in.....I wish one could drag it out. It felt sooooooooo great. Maybe I should take each day that last piece out and then put it back again............most likely not the same......
What did it provide: hours of getting lost in time.......really lost......the only thing reminding me of the time were my knees or arms or back..... due to it's size it had to be on the floor......I learned that after about 1.5 hours one tends to go blind on finding anything.........so time for a break......
It helped get my frazzled nerves down to a lower level. Over all rating: It is a $ 25 meditation project that last's a few weeks. Can't beat that price!
My kids learned that one needs to build with thought not just pick random pieces, but always sections and always from the outside towards the middle. The did help a bit, but usually lost patient a bit early, say if a piece was not found within 2 min. they tended to get frustrated......... I guess that is normal at this age.......
Below is the final piece. We used a plastic cover about 2 mm thick. Glass would have been too heavy to be safe on our flimsy drywall I thought. Even though this one is not light either. I still drilled 3 holes in 3 studs, just to make sure my angel does not get hit by the world during nightly trip to dreamland.
